Changes in our work at Pansophy Limited
Pansophy Limited was started in 2006 in order to provide an organisational basis for transidisciplinary studies in a New Zealand contract research context. Pansophy Limited was preceded by two earlier business activities: (i) an environmental research consultancy named ‘Oikos Logos’ and (ii) a natural history multimedia and teaching business call ‘Nature on Film’. These two business activities were eventually combined in the creation of ‘Pansophy Limited’ with its strong transdisciplinary orientation. Since 2006, Pansophy Limited has focused on transdisciplinary contract research activities, however we have continued to gradually develop our capacity for supporting the use of technology and information systems in education and indeed research. This developmental history was part of a long term plan that focuses our attention on that goal (i.e. ‘Pansophy’) that so animated the ‘Father of modern education’ who gave meaning to our company name (i.e. Jan Amos Comenius).
While much of our past work has focused on the complex problems associated with sustainable futures and cultural survival. We are now moving away from sustainability research to focus our attention on that which is critically important to the creation of sustainable futures (i.e. education). Our mission in the area of education rests on two pillars: (i) supporting the creation, development and adoption of transdisciplinary approaches to teaching, learning and knowledge development and (ii) the use of technology and information systems in education. These two goals are interrelated. Technology has ‘come-of-age’ and this means that it is now possible to contribute to teaching theory and practice, learning and knowledge development on a global scale.
